Should we pray to know if the Book of Mormon is True?

3 Reasons not to pray to see if the Book of Mormon is True:

1. The Bible never tells us to use prayer as the primary means of discerning truth.
   • 1 John 4:1-6
     • Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, ³ and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. ⁴ Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. ⁵ They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
   • 2 Corinthians 11:4
     • ⁴ For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.
   • Matthew 7:15-20
     • ¹⁵ “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. ¹⁶ You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? ¹⁷ So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. ¹⁸ A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. ¹⁹ Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ²⁰ Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.
   • Jeremiah 17:9
     • The heart is deceitful above all things,
           and desperately sick;
           who can understand it?
2. Scripture commands us to test prophecy by comparing it to the teaching of the new testament

3. When we neglect the clear command of God in order to indulge a “revelation” received through prayer – we dishonor God.
   • Proverbs 28:9
     • If one turns away his ear from hearing the law,
           even his prayer is an abomination.
